Plant Pod

Role: Branding and graphic design

The starting point

Plant Pod is a brand new vegan food startup, who make convenient instant food pots for people on the go. I was really excited to be a part of this project, as it’s always exciting to support a brand new company doing innovative (and delicious) work.

The initial inspiration for the brief was two simple elements; pastel colours and 80’s inspired.

The 80s has a big variety of different moods going on so I presented my initial moodboard to the CEO, Vicki, to try and understand which elements she felt were most effective.

She immediately pointed out the image on the bottom left - absolutely loved it. From there, the brand exploration began. I went on to research bauhaus design and put together some initial concepts.

I kept in touch with Vicki, with regular meetings to discuss progress and direction for the designs. We really liked the chaotic feeling of the loose, bauhaus inspired designs as it kind of represented nature itself? Plants don’t try to grow symmetrically, they grow in whatever is the best way for them. Because of this, I integrated a more natural, hand drawn set of patterns into the brand to represent people working together with nature. These became the core branding elements of Plant Pod, from which we could build a flexible and vibrant brand.

Accessibility is very important to me in terms of design, so I made sure that all of the text contrast levels met WCAG guidelines, and was sure not to cross text and patterns to prevent issues for dyslexic readers. The branding pack also contains guidelines for further asset creation.

The final product

The branding has currently been rolled out across a website, social media, business cards, pop-up banner, leaflets and even instant food pots. It has been really positively received at events, with many customers commenting on how much they like it. We have also gone on to flex the branding into different colour combinations to represent the various flavours of Plant Pod products.
